Corrected Dates for Upcoming Speakers

My weekly post yesterday had incorrect dates for our November speakers -- it listed Wednesdays instead of Tuesdays.  Our meetings are still on Tuesdays.

Here's a recap of upcoming speakers, with the correct dates:

27 Oct:  This week BizNet member J.J. Mackin (USNA '68) will give an informal report (with photos) on his recent trip to the Northeast, which included attendance at the christening of the USS Illinois. The Illinois is a Virginia-class attack submarine in the same class as the USS Colorado, which is under construction and will follow the Illinois in joining the fleet. J.J. is chairman of the USS Colorado Commissioning Committee.

3 Nov:   Dave Jackson (USMA '73) will give a book review of ʺThe Monk Who Sold His Ferrari: A Fable About Fulfilling Your Dreams and Reaching Your Destinyʺ by motivational speaker and author Robin Sharma. The overview will discuss an inspiring tale that provides a step-by-step approach to living with greater courage, balance, abundance and joy.

10 Nov: TBD/Open Networking.

17 Nov: Karen Susman will talk with us about how to improve our presenting and networking skills. She is a professional communications coach with 30 years of expereince in speaking, consulting, and coaching. Her client list includes Marriott Hotels, NBC, American Express, CH2M Hill, American Council of Engineering Companies, University of Denver, Inc. Magazine, and many others.

================================

A great slate of speakers this next few weeks, so hope you can join us on a Tuesday morning soon.

How to Create an Infographic Resume That Will Land You a Job

This article is a partial posting from blog/visme/co.

How to Create an Infographic Resume That Will Land You a Job

6 seconds.
This is the average amount of time that a hiring manager will spend reviewing your resume before they go on to the next candidate.
According to a study conducted by TheLadders, 80 percent of the job recruiter’s time will be spent on just six key elements in your resume:
  • Your name
  • The company you currently work for
  • Your previous employment
  • The start and end dates of your previous jobs
  • The start and end dates of your most recent job
  • Your educational background
While this may be disheartening news for those who have spent hours or even days creating a top-notch resume, the reality is that competition is fierce and it’s only becoming tougher to get noticed nowadays.
To avoid the fate of other unimpressive resumes that get thrown in the “no” pile, many job candidates have resorted to turning their text-based Word resumes into visually captivating infographics.
As with traditional resumes, however, you have to know the do’s and don’ts before you set out to create your own. After all, attempting to get noticed can do more harm than good if you don’t know what works in each industry.
