News & Agenda for Weekly Meeting on Tuesday, 3/1/11

1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 3/1/11:

0700-0730: INTRODUCTIONS & ASSISTANCE
We'll begin with roundtable introductions and discussion on items of interest. During introductions please don't hesitate to let us know of anything we can help you with, such as business networking, referrals, advice, job search assistance, or any other networking needs.

0730-0800: PROGRAM/SPEAKER
Helping the Veteran in Today's Economy. Dennis Orr and Bert Hendricks will speak with us about opportunities for veterans in this challenging environment. They'll also talk about starting your own business as a VOB (veteran owned business) or SDVOB (service disabled veteran owned business). Mr. Orr is a former B-52 navigator-bombardier and currently works for the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment as a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. Mr. Hendricks served in the Army for 24 years and currently works for the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment as the Regional Veterans' Employment Representative for the North Metro Denver Region.

Thanks to Bob Fretzs (USAFA '71) for arranging to have Dennis and Bert speak with us.

2. UPCOMING TUESDAY PROGRAMS:

3/8/11: Open Forum/TBD.

3. ITEM OF INTEREST: Analyzing the Constitution in 90 Days

Thanks to Ron Meier (USMA '66) for passing along this educational item. It includes the opportunity for direct participation in a blog discussion about our constitution. Ron writes as follows:

We all talk about the Constitution and what's in it and what's not, but few of us (including Congress Critters, who pledge to defend it) have read it, much less tried to understand it. This program (Constituting America) is a daily short reading of the Constitution, followed by reading a blog written by one of their selected constitutional scholars (generally lawyers and educators who really are experts and give some great perspective), then, if you choose, you can participate in blogging. I did the blogging sometimes last year and found it very helpful to see perspectives of others.

The 90-day program began last week, but you can still join the blog to participate or to simply read the discussions. Here's the link: http://constitutingamerica.org/blog/

Have a great week.
