Weekly News & Agenda for Tuesday, 5/17/11

1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 5/17/11:

0700-0730: INTRODUCTIONS

We'll begin with roundtable introductions. Tell us what's new for you, either personally or professionally, and any networking needs. We'll put particular focus on those seeking advice, referrals, job search assistance, or simply the opportunity to disseminate business information or plug their own business.

0730-0800: SPEAKER/PROGRAM

Attorney Kari Kelly will speak with us on the legal aspects of using social media such as Facebook and Linkedin and how to avoid discrimination. Thanks to Dick Bush (USAFA '71) for arranging to have Ms. Kelly talk with us this week.

2. UPCOMING TUESDAY PROGRAMS:

5/24/11: Mark Wilczynski will talk with us about ACTS, a Denver area food bank and shelter, as they are launching a new program to specifically help veterans.

5/31/11: Dave Jackson (USMA '73) will speak on Success & The Law of Abundance.

3. GLOBAL VETERANS & WOUNDED WARRIOR RESUME DATABASE:

On May 10th, 200+ companies began to have access to the first Global Veterans & Wounded Warrior Resume Database for Retirees, Active & Inactive Duty, Reserve, National Guard and all Military Veterans. The purpose of this email is to "Mobilize" Service Academy Grads to get the word out about this career search tool.

This database is being developed to support the BE A HERO, HIRE A HERO Global Veterans & Wounded Warrior Career Expo 2011 in New York City on Tuesday, May 24 at the New Yorker Hotel and Monday, November 7 at the Intrepid Sea & Space Museum. Please feel free to forward this information to anyone that may be looking for a new career opportunity.

To up-load resumes, go to www.BeAHero-HireAHero.com website and register for the Expo and up-loading resumes. There is no need to actually attend the Expo.

These Expos are being supported by the Department of Defense, Department of Labor and hosted by Global Diversity, Hire Disability Solutions, Veterans Across America, Academy Recruiters LLC, the New York Times and several Wounded Warrior support organizations. A percentage of the Expo revenue will be donated to selected Wounded Warrior organizations.

Each Expo is open to all Veterans and Active Duty personnel with special attention given to our Wounded Warriors. Conducted a few years ago, this program was attended by 7,000 Veterans, 122 Companies and 80 Vendors resulted in the placement of over 500 veterans.
