Weekly News and Agenda for Tuesday 2/28/12

0700-0800: OPEN FORUM

For our Open Forum we'll do introductions as usual, but with more time to go into greater depth, if you choose, on what's new for you or anything we can help with. So grab some coffee and join us for productive discussion and general networking. We'll focus on topics of interest and any networking needs you might have. As many of our long-time members can attest, our Open Forums are often some of our most productive sessions.

3/8/12: TBD. If there's a speaker you'd like to invite for this date or any future Tuesday, or if you'd like to lead a discussion yourself, just let me know (

Thanks to BizNet member Lindy Blackburn (USMA '69) for passing along the following.

Three Wire Systems LLC provides IT solutions and integrated communications platforms for military veterans’ health and career coaching. Among their programs are three which might be of interest to BizNet members:

a. VA for Vets: VA for Vets facilitates the reintegration, retention and hiring of Veteran employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). We offer career-search tools for Veterans seeking employment at VA, career development services for our existing Veterans, and coaching and reintegration support for military service members. VA for Vets is your gateway to a rewarding career serving our nation's Veterans. The contact for this program is Missy Stevens, at

b. Support for Veterans Integrated Service Networks 19 and 20 (western U.S). Their contact for this program is Koren Giddings, at

c. VetAdvisor. The mission of VetAdvisor is to provide veterans, service members and their families’ holistic coaching services to foster happy, well-adjusted, housed, and employed members of society. We provide these services through an accessible and reliable integrated communications platform.

VetAdvisor® is a highly focused and personalized coaching and screening service designed to support veterans in their reintegration to civilian life. Three Wire has provided VetAdvisor services to the Department of Veterans Affairs since 2007. Coaching is a collaborative process between veterans and their personal coach or a peer support specialist. Working together, specific problems related to the reintegration (e.g. mental health, wellness, occupational, financial) are indentified and a personal plan that creates goals and timelines to address and resolve those problems is developed. Coaching is about achieving the empowerment necessary for veterans to lead a holistically complete life. Coaches do not act as therapists or counselors, and are not designed to replace primary care or mental health providers, but to augment existing services.

VetAdvisor® provides the right care, in the right place, at the right time by allowing flexible scheduling to ensure convenient meeting times, by eliminating any travel time, by offering the privacy of one’s own home, and by providing continued access to a Coach. VetAdvisor® employs an integrated communications platform to help returning service members achieve the empowerment necessary to lead a holistically complete life.

Have a great week.
