Weekly News & Agenda for Tuesday, 30 May 2017

Reminder -- meeting location is now at the Embassy Suites on Hampden.  See details below.

1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 30 MAY 2017:

0700-0800:  Introductions, Networking, and Open Forum Discussion

Share what's new for you, especially any networking needs.  We can help with referrals, advice, job search assistance, and other networking help.  We also welcome any topics for general discussion.  Don't have immediate networking needs?  Come anyway to build your long-term network and enjoy the camaraderie among grads.

2. SPEAKER SCHEDULE:

30 May (this week):  Open Networking - see above.

6 June:  This date is available for a speaker.  If you have one in mind, just let me know at panicciaj@aol.com.

3.  NEW PERMANENT MEETING LOCATION, EFFECTIVE 30 MAY 2017:

Beginning this week (Tuesday, 30 May), our new permanent meeting location is the Embassy Suites Denver Southeast, at 7525 East Hampden Avenue, Denver, CO 80231.

The hotel is located 1 mile east of I-25, on the north side of Hampden, near Tamarac Square.  Map & directions:   http://embassysuites3.hilton.com/en/hotels/colorado/embassy-suites-by-hilton-denver-southeast-DENHPES/maps-directions/index.html

Parking is free.  We will meet in the Fourteener's Room.  Upon entering the hotel, proceed straight ahead to the large central atrium.  As you enter that area, the Fourteener's Room will be on your left.

Optional buffet-style breakfast will be available for purchase but is not a condition of attendance.  To purchase the breakfast, pay at the front desk.  Let them know you're with the Academy Biznet group, as that will get you the discounted breakfast prices -- $11.95 for the full hot breakfast, and $7.95 for cold breakfast (anything not prepared as you wait).

This permanent location change is prompted by the less favorable situation at the Marriott in recent months, since the completion of their full renovation.  Their new coffee shop is marginally acceptable, but the parking situation is not.  Parking at the Marriott is free for the first hour, then $10.  We pursued an accommodation from the hotel, but the solutions offered were inconvenient or unreliable.  With few exceptions, surrounding lots are no longer available, or appear to be only temporarily available.  After approximately 20 years at the Marriott, we had to consider other options.

Many thanks to Kurt Schlaefer (USAFA '70) for finding our new venue (Embassy Suites).  Who knew a zoomie could be good at ground reconnaissance?   :)

4.  REMEMBERING THE FALLEN ON MEMORIAL DAY:

We remember the approximately 1.4 million men and women who've made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this great nation.

Have a great week.

Weekly News & Agenda, for Tuesday, 23 May 2017

Important meeting location update!

This week (23 May)Meet at the Marriott-DTC, as usual.

Next week (30 May) and beyond:  Meet at the Embassy Suites on Hampden.  More info below.

1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 23 MAY 2017:

0700-0800:  Introductions, Networking, and Open Forum Discussion

Share what's new for you, especially any networking needs.  We can help with referrals, advice, job search assistance, and other networking help.  We also welcome any topics for general discussion.  Don't have immediate networking needs?  Come anyway to build your long-term network and enjoy the camaraderie among grads.

2. SPEAKER SCHEDULE:

23 May (this week):  Open Networking, at Marriott-DTC as usual.

30 May:  Open Forum Discussion, at our new permanent meeting location - Embassy Suites.

6 June:  This date is available for a speaker.  If you have one in mind, just let me know at panicciaj@aol.com.

3.  NEW PERMANENT MEETING LOCATION, EFFECTIVE 30 MAY 2017:

Beginning on Tuesday, 30 May, our new permanent meeting location is the Embassy Suites Denver Southeast, at 7525 East Hampden Avenue, Denver, CO 80231.  The hotel is located 1 mile east of I-25, on the north side of Hampden, near Tamarac Square.  Parking is free.  We will meet in the Fourteener's Room.  Upon entering the hotel, proceed straight ahead to the large central atrium area.  As you enter that area, the Fourteener's Room will be on your left.  Discounted cafeteria-style breakfast will also available -- details to follow.  Breakfast is entirely optional -- no purchase necessary to attend.

This change is prompted by the less favorable situation at the Marriott in recent months, since the completion of their full renovation.  Their new coffee shop is marginally acceptable, but the parking situation is not.  Parking at the hotel is free for the first hour, then $10.  We've pursued an accommodation from the hotel, but so far the solutions offered are inconvenient or unreliable.  With few exceptions, surrounding lots are no longer available, or appear to be only temporarily available.  After approximately 20 years at the Marriott, we were forced to consider other options.  Many thanks to Kurt Schlaefer (USAFA '70) for finding our new venue (Embassy Suites).

4.  PARKING AT CURRENT MEETING LOCATION (Marriott - DTC):

The Marriott-DTC has instituted paid parking for all of their lots.  It's free for the first hour, then $10.  So for one final week, here are some thoughts on where to park.

Many of you will recall that in recent years we've parked across the street in front of the former Garcia's restaurant.  That option is no longer available, due to construction of a large building on that lot.

So instead, consider parking in the lot in front of the ReMax headquarters tower, which is south of the Marriott.  The lot is not on ReMax property, but rather is adjacent to a former bakery/café that is no longer in operation.  If driving from the Belleview exit off I-25, you will turn north on S. Syracuse Street as usual, but then take a left at the next light, onto S. Syracuse Circle.  As you come to the end of S. Syracuse Circle, the lot is on your left.

Have a great week.

Weekly News & Agenda for Tuesday, 16 May 2017

1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 16 MAY 2017:

0700-0730:  Introductions & Brief Networking

Share what's new for you, especially any networking needs.  We can help with referrals, advice, job search assistance, and other networking help.  We also welcome any brief topics for general discussion.

0730-0800:  Speaker -- Discussion on Options for a New (Future) Meeting Location

Please join us this week for a discussion about options for a new BizNet meeting location.  This topic is prompted by the less favorable situation at the Marriott in recent months, since the completion of their full renovation. After approximately 20 years at the Marriott, we now must consider other options.

Some BizNet members have conducted detailed reconnaissance of alternative locations.  We'll discuss those in this week's meeting, which will still be at the Marriott (see below for suggested parking location).  So join us Tuesday, as we want your input!

2. SPEAKER SCHEDULE:

16 May (this week):  Discuss new meeting location options -- see above.

23 May:  TBD/Open.  This date is available for a speaker.  If you have one in mind, just let me know at panicciaj@aol.com.

3.  PARKING AT OUR MEETING LOCATION (Marriott - DTC):

The Marriott-DTC has instituted paid parking for all of their lots.  It's free for the first hour, then $10.  We're pursuing possible solutions to overcome this, including discussions with the hotel management and other meeting sites.  Meantime, here are some thoughts on where to park.

Many of you will recall that in recent years we've parked across the street in front of the former Garcia's restaurant.  That option is no longer available, due to construction of a large building on that lot.
