1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 12/31/13:

0700-0800: Open Forum.  Yes, it's New Year's Eve, but we'll still meet.  If you're in town and free Tuesday morning, consider stopping by to grab some coffee and join us.  We'll do introductions as usual, but with more time available to cover topics of interest and your networking needs.

2. UPCOMING SPEAKERS:

12/31/13 (this week):  Open Forum.

3.  IT ACADEMY OFFERED BY WORKFORCE INVENTION BOARD:

Dave Jackson (USMA '73) writes as follows:

I’m on the Workforce Invention Board (WIB) for JEFFCO, Gilpin, & Clear Creek counties. They (the WIB) conduct academies in three areas, one of which is IT. The next IT academy starts Dec 9 and goes thru Dec 12. Talking to the WIB Director, he says that these academies are generally for all levels of skill in the IT field. This particular academy has entry level thru Program Managers signed up to attend.
There are at least three sessions that sound unique enough to be a value to BizNet members:
First, they have some software what allows you to more easily tailor your resume to a specific job application. As opposed to using just one or two semi-tailored, general resumes. This seems to be something we at BizNet always see in job searches, a resume that is not specific enough to lead to an interview.
Second, they have some software where you conduct an “interview” interactively with the ‘puter. based on your answers, it asks more questions, all geared to the IT field. It records the interview, lets you watch yourself answer, and also suggests things you might consider as additional answers to the questions asked.(sounds interesting at least...).
Lastly, they cap off the academy by bringing in local businesses that are hiring, for a panel. Reportedly, these businesses are “in the know” for the IT field in the Denver area and are in touch with other companies that are hiring. They conclude it with interview for attendees that match their business needs.
All in all, it sounds like it might be a benefit for BizNet members. It’s free, conducted at the WIB Building near Golden, & is open to anyone regardless of where they live (a federally funded program).
IF you have an interest, please let me know ASAP & I’ll forward you contact info to the WIB Director, who’ll forward it to the academy team.
If you have further questions, please call me.  Here’s a link to their website.
