Weekly News and Agenda for Tuesday, 7/28/15

1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 7/28/15:

0700-0730:  INTRODUCTIONS & ASSISTANCE

We begin with individual introductions to the group.  Tell us a bit about yourself, including any networking needs.  We can help with advice, referrals, job search assistance, business connections, and other networking needs. 

0730-0800:  SPEAKER

Guy Higgins (USNA '69) will speak on key business topics, including his views on the most effective approach for interviewing and selecting people for your staff.  Guy is a 30-year Navy veteran and P-3 pilot.  He currently serves as a board member for the USNA Alumni Association.

Thanks to J.J. Mackin (USNA '68) for arranging to have Guy speak with us this week.

3.  USS COLORADO EVENT (July 29) -- An Evening with Historians, Scholars, & Veterans:

As part of a series of events leading up to the commissioning of USS Colorado, History Colorado Center in conjunction with Denver Post Education Services, Teaching with Primary Sources Program at Metro State University and the USS Colorado Commissioning Committee will host “An Evening with Historians, Scholars, & Veterans” on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.

This event will consist of a social hour followed by a panel discussion about USS Colorado’s and an open visit of the museum which will house a special temporary display of artifacts from previous USS Colorado’s.

The schedule for the evening will be as follows:

5:00 - 6:00 PM Social hour featuring light hors d’ouvres and cash bar
6:00 - 7:00 PM Speakers / Panel Discussion
7:00 - 8:00 PM Open visit of entire museum

The panel will consist of some 2 or 3 History Scholars from Metro State as well as 2 or 3 veterans. Each of the veterans will tell a story about their military experience. We will have a veteran of service on the Battleship Colorado and a WWII Submarine Veteran scheduled to appear. Afterward there will be a Q&A period with the panel before an open tour of the museum and the USS Colorado artifacts.

Service Academy BizNet of Denver meets weekly on Tuesdays at 0700, in the Marriott Hotel at the Denver Tech Center. From I-25, exit Belleview east, then turn north onto Syracuse Street. The Marriott lots are paid parking (approx $2-4), however you can park for FREE across the street at Garcia's Restaurant (we have their permission). Look for us in the seating area inside the Marriott's coffee shop. RSVP is not required. Dress is casual. Attendance is open to graduates of the federal service academies (USAFA, USCGA, USMA, USMMA, USNA). There are no dues or fees.
