1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 2/28/12:
0700-0800: OPEN FORUM
For our Open Forum we'll do introductions as usual, but with more time to go into greater depth, if you choose, on what's new for you or anything we can help with. So grab some coffee and join us for productive discussion and general networking. We'll focus on topics of interest and any networking needs you might have. As many of our long-time members can attest, our Open Forums are often some of our most productive sessions.
2. UPCOMING TUESDAY PROGRAMS:
2/28/12 (this week): Open Forum.
3/8/12: TBD. If there's a speaker you'd like to invite for this date or any future Tuesday, or if you'd like to lead a discussion yourself, just let me know (panicciaj@aol.com).
3. RESOURCE FOR VETERANS:
Thanks to BizNet member Lindy Blackburn (USMA '69) for passing along the following.
Three Wire Systems LLC provides IT solutions and integrated communications platforms for military veterans’ health and career coaching. Among their programs are three which might be of interest to BizNet members:
a. VA for Vets: VA for Vets facilitates the reintegration, retention and hiring of Veteran employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). We offer career-search tools for Veterans seeking employment at VA, career development services for our existing Veterans, and coaching and reintegration support for military service members. VA for Vets is your gateway to a rewarding career serving our nation's Veterans. The contact for this program is Missy Stevens, at mstevens@threewiresys.com.
b. Support for Veterans Integrated Service Networks 19 and 20 (western U.S). Their contact for this program is Koren Giddings, at kgiddings@threewiresys.com.
c. VetAdvisor. The mission of VetAdvisor is to provide veterans, service members and their families’ holistic coaching services to foster happy, well-adjusted, housed, and employed members of society. We provide these services through an accessible and reliable integrated communications platform.
VetAdvisor® is a highly focused and personalized coaching and screening service designed to support veterans in their reintegration to civilian life. Three Wire has provided VetAdvisor services to the Department of Veterans Affairs since 2007. Coaching is a collaborative process between veterans and their personal coach or a peer support specialist. Working together, specific problems related to the reintegration (e.g. mental health, wellness, occupational, financial) are indentified and a personal plan that creates goals and timelines to address and resolve those problems is developed. Coaching is about achieving the empowerment necessary for veterans to lead a holistically complete life. Coaches do not act as therapists or counselors, and are not designed to replace primary care or mental health providers, but to augment existing services.
VetAdvisor® provides the right care, in the right place, at the right time by allowing flexible scheduling to ensure convenient meeting times, by eliminating any travel time, by offering the privacy of one’s own home, and by providing continued access to a Coach. VetAdvisor® employs an integrated communications platform to help returning service members achieve the empowerment necessary to lead a holistically complete life.
For more information on any of these programs, visit www.threewiresys.com.

A Poem - by Richard
This poem is published with verbal permission of Richard Adams, USMA 1967. For more of Richard's work, visit his website: http://richardbarlowadams.com/
The following was penned against the backdrop of fall and spring reunion weekends at West Point when returning members of the Long Gray Line venture out in the early morning hours onto the Plain and Trophy Point before the Alumni Review, and in that time remember…
In Their Eyes
Richard B. Adams, USMA 1967
Ere cloaking Hudson mist gave birth to pensive early dawn
And warming sun imbued the day with color’s magic wand
Some walked the quiet of that time recalling what had been
When younger then, they too were called, a country to defend
So much the same, the sight and sound and scent upon the wind
Roused memory of former times, sweet chapters deep within
When first the Corps assembled there uncertain what to be
Til men of worth and men of faith saw clear its destiny
Three hallowed words would cross their lips, a motto ever be
The first was DUTY, selfless love, to serve a nation free
Then HONOR next, a guarding shield against the tempter’s sting
And COUNTRY followed, sacred trust, of which they’d often sing
The river’s might, the circling hills, beneath God’s brilliant arch
Called forth to mind those harried times when they, too, formed to march
When shoes and brass were made to shine and belts the purest white
Were donned on black trimmed coats of gray, beneath a dress hat bright
Behind them lay so much of life since first they wore the gray
When light their step and clear their eye, they savored each new day
Those happy times of West Point years, when bonds for life were made
Til oaths were sworn and forth they went their mettle to be weighed
Still on they walk on legs grown old, with eyes that strain to see
But gaining strength with every step infused by history
By classmates gone whose deeds on earth live on in mind and heart
Remembered friends in marbled stone who bravely did their part
What’s that they hear upon the Plain, but sound of fife and drum
As turn they all to join a class whose time to march has come
And march they do with heads held high before the grateful throng
And with them wait for freedom’s band to call the new guard on
The granite walls release their hold and free the waiting Corps
Young men and women marching forth to martial music score
They pass the Line, their span of years, as eyes look right to see
And in their eyes catch full a glimpse of who they’ll one day be
All sense a spirit in the air, a bond across the stage
As eyes grow moist and hearts beat fast uniting all in age
The young march off and leave the plain, the stirring music dies
But those who stay, inspired so, renew their lifelong ties
God grant them mercy in your will, the Black and Gold and Gray
To find a servant’s resting place when comes the final day
With family, friends, The Long Gray Line, eternity to share
Immortal life by heaven’s grace with all who gather there

Weekly News and Agenda for Tuesday 2/14/12
1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 2/14/12:
0700-0730: INTRODUCTIONS & ASSISTANCE
During roundtable introductions we invite you tell us what's happening in your world these days, with special focus on anything we might be able to help with, such as referrals, advice, job search assistance, or any other networking needs. Chances are good that someone in the group can help directly, or refer you to someone in the network who can.
0730-0800: PROGRAM/SPEAKER
Author and BizNet member Rich Adams (USMA '67) will share some of the stories behind his recent award-winning book - The Parting - A Story of West Point on the Eve of the Civil War.
Rich talked about the book during one of our Tuesday meetings last month, but it left many of us yearning to hear even more about this great story of an incredible time in our nation's history. Some highly respected reviewers have suggested that it be made into a feature film someday. For more information on The Parting, please visit the website for the book, at http://richardbarlowadams.com/
Here's an excerpt from the website:
"As we enter the sesquicentennial years of the Civil War, we are reminded of the most heart-wrenching time in our nation's history when the nation was divided and families and friends, including West Point cadets, had to decide their allegiance, and having decided their allegiance would fight one another for four long years in a war that would take more than 620,000 lives. The Parting is a story that enters upon the eve of that history."
2. UPCOMING TUESDAY PROGRAMS:
2/14/12 (this week): Rich Adams (USMA '67) -- see above.
2/21/12: TBD/Open Forum. We have some speakers tentatively lined up in the coming weeks, but at the moment this date is still open. If there's a speaker you'd like to invite for 2/21 or any future Tuesdays, or if you'd like to lead a discussion yourself, just let me know (panicciaj@aol.com).
3. JOB OPPORTUNITY - SALES/ACCOUNT MANAGER (Denver):

Agenda for Tuesday, 2/7/12
1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 2/7/12:
0700-0730: INTRODUCTIONS & ASSISTANCE
During roundtable introductions we invite you tell us what you're up to these days, with special focus on anything we might be able to help with, such as referrals, advice, job search assistance, or any other networking needs. Chances are good that someone in the group can help directly or refer you to someone in the network who can.
0730-0800: PROGRAM/SPEAKER
BizNet member Leo DeGreef (USAFA '79) will lead a discussion on our tools and strategies for BizNet communication and basic information sharing, with particular focus on our roster. Currently we have 2 rosters -- the one on the main BizNet site, and also the Google Docs roster set up for us by Dave Jackson (USMA '73) to address security concerns. We intended the Google Docs roster to be the single solution, but some challenges remain with visibility and accessibility. Better communication might overcome most of those concerns, but whatever the strategy, we'd like to have a single roster that is both secure and easily accessible for our members.
Leo has good ideas on other BizNet communication strategies also, and we'd love to hear your thoughts, so grab some coffee and join us Tuesday morning.

Urgent Request from Kurt Schlaefer (USAFA '70)
BizNet Members:
I have an imminent emergency brewing.
I’m reaching out to you to see if any of you know of a really good Divorce and Family law attorney in Denver to help my daughter fight an estranged husband who is cheating on her and trying to take her newborn and 7 year old daughter away from her. She lives with us and had her new daughter 1 week ago and is still recovering and trying to breast feed. Her current attorney is not properly equipped to deal with the type of person her husband has become and their issues going forward. The husband is becoming worse and worse and she needs someone who will get on this right away in the face of the husbands venomous attacks and new uncaring attorney.
There are some immediate court actions upon us requiring immediate attention.
Again, if you know a really good Divorce and Family Law attorney and understands women’s issues, could you please contact me by cell or email right away.
Thanks for your help,
Kurt
