Weekly News and Agenda for Tuesday 2/14/12

1. AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, 2/14/12:

0700-0730: INTRODUCTIONS & ASSISTANCE

During roundtable introductions we invite you tell us what's happening in your world these days, with special focus on anything we might be able to help with, such as referrals, advice, job search assistance, or any other networking needs. Chances are good that someone in the group can help directly, or refer you to someone in the network who can.

0730-0800: PROGRAM/SPEAKER

Author and BizNet member Rich Adams (USMA '67) will share some of the stories behind his recent award-winning book - The Parting - A Story of West Point on the Eve of the Civil War.

Rich talked about the book during one of our Tuesday meetings last month, but it left many of us yearning to hear even more about this great story of an incredible time in our nation's history. Some highly respected reviewers have suggested that it be made into a feature film someday. For more information on The Parting, please visit the website for the book, at http://richardbarlowadams.com/

Here's an excerpt from the website:

"As we enter the sesquicentennial years of the Civil War, we are reminded of the most heart-wrenching time in our nation's history when the nation was divided and families and friends, including West Point cadets, had to decide their allegiance, and having decided their allegiance would fight one another for four long years in a war that would take more than 620,000 lives. The Parting is a story that enters upon the eve of that history."

2. UPCOMING TUESDAY PROGRAMS:

2/14/12 (this week): Rich Adams (USMA '67) -- see above.

2/21/12: TBD/Open Forum. We have some speakers tentatively lined up in the coming weeks, but at the moment this date is still open. If there's a speaker you'd like to invite for 2/21 or any future Tuesdays, or if you'd like to lead a discussion yourself, just let me know (panicciaj@aol.com).
